President's Corner

Greetings –

NMPA is launching our new social media campaign to share the latest ways we’re protecting, promoting and advancing the interest of musics' creators. A part of that campaign will be video blogs on issues affecting songwriters. Be sure you’re following me on Twitter — @davidisraelite — and are a friend of NMPA’s Facebook page so you get the news when it happens.

A new Congressional Creative Rights Caucus, founded by California Congresswoman Judy Chu and North Carolina Congressman Howard Coble, will help those on Capitol Hill recognize the impact of existing laws and pending legislation on our industry. The Caucus will educate members of Congress and the general public about the importance of preserving and protecting the rights of the creative community in the U.S.

Increasingly, matters related to creators’ rights are before Congress and the laws governing such rights must keep pace with a rapidly changing landscape. We will be well served to have a dedicated group of lawmakers thoughtfully considering the sometimes complicated and contentious issues around digital media. We are pleased to have these two lawmakers championing real solutions.

Until next time,
David
