WASHINGTON—NMPA President and CEO David Israelite praised committee passage today of a bipartisan Senate bill that will improve federal coordination and enforcement of intellectual property rights laws. “This legislation guarantees an ongoing spotlight will shine on the crimes undermining the work of America’s creators and inventors,” said Israelite. “With its provisions to bolster coordination and resources devoted to IP enforcement, this bill represents one of the most important legislative commitments to strengthening America’s economy this year. “The legislative window is closing rapidly and I am heartened to see the commitment by Senate leaders to moving this bill forward in the time that remains. I particularly want to thank the Chairman and Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee for their work, Sen. Patrick Leahy and Sen. Arlen Specter,” Israelite added. The Senate Judiciary Committee passed the bill Thursday 14-4 sending it to the full Senate for consideration. The U.S. House of Representatives in May overwhelmingly passed an IP enforcement bill containing many similar measures, although not the task force provision.
