| STATEMENT FROM NMPA PRESIDENT AND CEO DAVID ISRAELITE REGARDING: U.S. House Passage of HR 4279, the PRO IP Act |
|
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 8, 2008 “The products generated from American ideas – whether in the form of a song that entertains or a medicine that heals – are the building blocks of our economy. Songwriters and music publishers applaud the swift action by the U.S. House today to pass the PRO IP Act, which aims to improve enforcement of intellectual property rights both at home and abroad. This bill will go a long way towards making sure law enforcement agencies have what they need to get the job done. Of note is the fact that this legislation garnered support from a bipartisan majority of members, and a diverse group of industry, trade groups and labor unions. Enforcing the rights of America’s intellectual property on a global scale is important to the U.S. economy on multiple levels – economic growth, job creation and trade. I urge the U.S. Senate to consider this bill quickly.” |
