| STATEMENT FROM PRESIDENT AND CEO DAVID ISRAELITE RE: Release today of USTR’s Annual Global Report on Intellectual Prop |
|
“The effects of global piracy trickle down to every songwriter, whether in lost direct sales of today’s hit songs or in lost opportunity for cultivating tomorrow’s platinum talent. Music is just one piece of America’s broad copyright industries, which each year lose billions to copyright infringement worldwide. I appreciate the ongoing efforts by the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative to collect and analyze data, and develop this annual road map for addressing global intellectual property rights and enforcement.” BACKGROUND The National Music Publishers’ Association each year, in conjunction with the International Intellectual Property Alliance, contributes information to the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative about global intellectual property theft. USTR issues a report annually, which includes information about global IP, piracy, a Priority Watch List of countries that fall short in rights and enforcement, and spells out a blueprint for the United States’ approach to dealing with global IP in the coming year. ### |
