For Immediate Release (March 13, 2007) – The National Music Publishers’ Association (NMPA) today announced that President and CEO David Israelite has accepted a contract extension to continue leading the organization through 2010. The NMPA Board of Directors unanimously voted to extend Israelite’s contract so that he can continue to fight for copyright protection on behalf of music publishers and their songwriting partners. “We are thrilled to have David’s strong guidance,” said Irwin Z. Robinson, Chairman of the NMPA Board of Directors. “Since he’s taken charge, the NMPA has paved the way in the battle for better laws protecting copyrights in the digital age. Under his leadership, the NMPA has become a forceful voice for music publishers and songwriters, and that voice is now being heard in the chambers of Congress and throughout the nation’s capital.” Since Israelite came on board in February 2005, the NMPA has moved its headquarters from New York to Washington D.C. Israelite has been instrumental in bringing creators together to speak with one voice about the need for stronger copyright laws to ensure that they get fair compensation for their hard work. “I’m excited about having the opportunity to continue to advocate for the issues music publishers and songwriters will face in the digital age,” Israelite said. “It is challenging and rewarding to convince our nation’s leaders and the public at large that protecting copyright is vital to America’s continued economic and cultural leadership.” About the NMPA Founded in 1917, The National Music Publishers’ Association (NMPA) is a trade association representing more than 600 American music publishers. The NMPA’s mandate is to protect and advance the interests of music publishers and their songwriter partners in matters relating to the domestic and global protection of music copyrights. Music publishers control the copyrights for the underlying compositions of songs on behalf of the songwriters they represent. The NMPA is the leading trade association in the United States for music publishers, and advocates for their interests, as well as for their songwriter partners, by protecting, upholding, and advancing their valuable copyrights. |
