|
For Immediate Release (January 11, 2007) – National Music Publishers’ Association President and CEO David Israelite today released the following statement regarding the Platform Equality and Remedies for Rights Holders in Music Act of 2007, important legislation sponsored by Sens. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Joseph Biden (D-Del.) and Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.). "I am excited that Sen. Feinstein has decided to make the PERFORM Act a top priority in the 110th Congress. Hopefully, 2007 will be the year that Congress ensures that music publishers and songwriters are compensated for their works when they are transmitted over digital radio. Ultimately, this bill will allow the consumer more ways than ever to get high-quality digital music, while fostering an environment that will lead to the creation of more music. “I applaud Sens. Feinstein, Graham, Biden and Alexander for sponsoring this important, bipartisan legislation.” About the NMPA Founded in 1917, the National Music Publishers’ Association (NMPA) is a trade association representing more than 600 American music publishers.
