National Music Publishers' Association Supports Efforts to Protect Music in Colleges and Universities
For Immediate Release (March 2, 2007) –  National Music Publishers’ Association President and CEO David Israelite today released the following statement regarding the recent efforts by Congress and private industry to protect music in colleges and universities.

“Earlier this week, the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Courts, the Internet and Intellectual Property announced a hearing that will focus on piracy on university networks.  In addition, the Recording Industry Association of America launched a campaign to combat music theft on college campuses.

“Music publishers and their songwriting partners are increasingly concerned about the illegal downloading habits of college students.

“Students should know that downloading copyrighted music without permission is stealing. Music publishers and songwriters have been dramatically affected by the widespread theft of their songs.

“The NMPA supports the efforts to combat music piracy on university and college campuses. We hope that students become educated about the potential consequences of illegally downloading copyrighted songs.”
